Someone from your team must be there for the kick-off. It’s being held at the Madison Ave Pub, 14 Madison Ave, Toronto. Please try to arrive between 5:30 pm and 6pm. The process takes a full hour, from signing in to us going over the rules to doing the genre draws, to providing you with the required elements, etc...)
Only two people per team are allowed in the kick-off room due to space constraints, but additional team members can wait in other parts of the pub. At least one person from each team must be in attendance. Doors to the kick-off open at 5:30. You must stay at the kick-off from 6 until 7 p.m., as we won’t be giving you the final instructions until just before then. It’s going to be really fun!
Madison Avenue Pub is located at 14 Madison Avenue, Toronto (a 3 minute walk from the Bloor & Spadina subway station). We'll be in room B2... look for the signs, you'll find us.
Before the kick-off, you need to upload your signed Team Leader's Agreement to https://48hourfilm.com/login The
Team Leader’s Agreement, alongside all of the other production documents you’ll need for the filmmaking weekend, can be found at https://www.48hourfilm.com/documents . You will upload the signed Team Leader's Agreement to your account on the 48 Hour Film Project website, https://www.48hourfilm.com Login to your account by clicking on "Login" in the top right corner. Your 48 Hour Film "Dashboard" will appear.
ACTRA members are allowed to participate in the Toronto 48 Hour Film Project. We'll provide the one page ACTRA agreement at the kickoff; nothing needs to be done in advance. You'll upload the agreement with your finished film and the ACTRA logo must also appear in your credits.
Vistek is offering a 30% discount on rentals, at both their Toronto and Mississauga locations, for the filmmaking weekend. If you need any extra gear for your filmmaking weekend, go to Vistek and tell them your Team Name and the Team Leader's name to get the deal... they have a list of all participants.

Remember: No creative work can be done prior to 7pm Friday, October 18, 2024. (Do not pre-write or shoot anything).
All submitted films must be under 2 gigs in size. Your film should be: 1920x1080, H264; MP4 or .mov.

For your Film to be On-Time and eligible for awards, the film deadline is: 7:30pm on Sunday, October 20, 2024. (But remember, Late Films screen too, so get them in!) Call or text us if you’re running late.
The final version of your film must be in one of the accepted formats listed on the 48HFP Dashboard (Login and download the “Tech Specs”)
Complete your Wrap Up Form and Team Roster, and Upload your film and paperwork (Certification Statement, etc.)
Note: All films will receive a Premiere Screening. Only on-time films are eligible to win!
Drop-off FAQ
Is there guidance regarding recommended browsers? We do not recommend using Safari to upload your film and paperwork, as it works sometimes but not all of the time. We strongly encourage using Chrome and Firefox.
Where do I find the title card templates? Login into your Dash account and select your team. Next, you will see the selected project with buttons to download title card templates.
What time does the film have to be submitted to be ON-TIME? You must have your checksum on Sunday by 7:30 PM at the latest. This checksum creates a fingerprint of your file as soon as you drag your file into the “film drop-off” box. This may take a couple of minutes, so ensure a timely start. Best Advice: Aim for a 7:00 PM drop-off, which gives you half an hour to start your download.
The upload appears to be stuck, but it’s after 7:30 PM! Don’t worry. This happens occasionally. But as long as you have an on-time checksum and have not changed anything about the original file, you can just refresh your browser and try again. Your drop-off time will appear again as soon as the fingerprinting phase (yellow beam) is done.
Nothing seems to happen, no yellow beam, nothing! Sometimes a browser can work against you. Sometimes Safari (among others) has issues. Best Advice: Use Chrome or Firefox. Still have issues? Try switching computers.
Can I finish the upload at a different location? Yes, as long as you have an on-time checksum, you can interrupt the upload and finish it somewhere else. But, ensure we have your film as soon as possible. Remember: You must upload the exact same file.
I’m getting an error about my file being corrupted, what now? This has nothing to do with your file, but how your file is received. Probably something went wrong with uploading, causing the file not to upload correctly. You can only fix this by refreshing and trying again.
The website mentions a “countdown,” where do I find it? Nowhere. This animation contains the old logo, which we don’t use anymore. But it’s not prohibited to use, hence it is still in the rules.
What can I do to prepare for my film upload? Make sure you are logged into the system at 7:00 PM and have navigated to the Film Upload page. If you already know the final title of your film, fill it in so the only thing you have to do is drop the file into the dropzone after checking that your file plays back after rendering and is correct.
I’m not able to complete my film on-time… what do I do? Call or text the City Producers and tell them that your film is going to be late and when to expect it.
Will you screen late films? Yes, you worked too hard for us not to screen your film. It’s a marathon… just finish the race and we’ll cheer when you cross the finish line.
Can I make changes to my film after submission? Yes, it’s your film and you can make your Director’s Cut. However, we’re screening the versions uploaded… warts and all, because we’re celebrating the run and what you’re able to accomplish in only 48 hours.

The Premiere Screenings are what filmmaking is all about: making a film and then watching it at the theatre with an enthusiastic audience.
The audience gets to vote for their three favorite films, and the audience’s favorite from each screening group wins an Audience Favorite Award.
Completing the 48 Hour Film Project is akin to running a marathon—it’s an extraordinary feat of endurance, creativity, and teamwork. Filmmakers have crossed the finish line, and now it's time to celebrate their remarkable achievements!
Each team leader will receive two complimentary tickets to their screening. These tickets will be held at the theatre under the team leader's name and available a half-hour before your screening.
For everyone’s convenience, Premiere Screening Tickets will be available for purchase online via EventBrite. Screenings may sell out quickly, so get your tickets as soon as possible.
Creating a short film in only one weekend is an amazing accomplishment, and we’re always proud to share and celebrate these incredible works with the best audience a filmmaker could ask for.
